I.SCHOOL BACKGROUND

    Vocational High School (SMK) of SMTI Pontianak is one of the state/government school established on January 15th, 1968 based on the West Kalimantan Governor Decree No. 01/11-E/68. Since then, the management of SMTI Pontianak was handed over from the District Government to the Ministry of Industry of Republic of Indonesia and the diploma is equal to the State Vocational High School based on the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia No. 1277/C/Kep/1/87.

    SMTI Pontianak is located on Jalan Sulawesi Dalam No. 31, in the heart of Pontianak City, West Kalimantan.

    1.Conducting a qualified, national characterized, and knowledgeable environmentally education.

    2.Enhancing cooperation with industries and society to provide excellent human resources.

II.SCHOOL DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION

    SMTI Pontianak is a three-year state vocational high school enrolling 803 students in grades 10 – 12 supported by 49 teachers,15 administration staffs, 26 technicians and cleaning service. Out of 49 teachers, 13 are master degree and 36 are bachelor degree. SMTI Pontianak offers three study programs; Industrial Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, and Analysis of Laboratory Testing. The school covers 12.864 m² and has 22 classrooms, 3 computer laboratories, 1 English laboratory, 4 chemistry laboratories 1 chemistry workshop, 2 mechanical workshops, 1 library, and 1 public service building. Around 80% of graduates are employed in some reputable companies in Indonesia and 20% of them are continuing to higher education every year.

  




Workshop Area and Laboratory


    Most of the population are dominated by Pontianak – Malayan race, Chinese race and some Pontianak born Javanese race with 45% male and 55% female. To provide excellent services for the residents and the public, the school divides its management into several divisions. They are Public Service, Administration, and Education Division. Each division carries out its core tasks.  


III.CURRICULUM

    The school implements Dual System Education from both The Ministry of Industry and The Ministry of Education; 30% of theory and 70% of practice with 3 – 2 – 1 model (semester 1 – 3 learning at school, semester 4 – 5 doing internship in the companies, semester 6 learning at school again). The total required instructional hours is 4.876 lesson hour for each study program to complete for 3 years where 2/3 of them are related to the students’ technical subjects related to their study program. Since 2019, the school has developed an industrial automation curriculum that links and matches to the industries. The student internship activity lasts for 12 months in companies in Kalimantan, Sumatera, Riau Islands and Java. To enhance the cooperation between the school and industries, SMTI Pontianak regularly conduct its curriculum synchronized once a year. Recently, around 100 companies have signed MoU with SMTI Pontianak in order to participate to develop vocational education in Indonesia which is linked and matched with the industrial need as well as to provide qualified industrial human resources to support industrial activities.
